2018: “Solving Climate Change”
Since the start of the industrial revolution, humans have been increasing the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere at. While there must be some gasses like CO2 to help keep our precious Earth warm, too much is bad news. According to the American Chemical Society: “Data for the past 2000 years show that the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, CH4, and N2O – three important long-lived greenhouse gases – have increased substantially since about 1750. Rates of increase in levels of these gases are dramatic. CO2, for instance, never increased more than 30 ppm during any previous 1,000-year period in this record but has already risen by 30 ppm in the past two decades.” (website) Ideas exist that can help reduce the amount of these gasses in the atmosphere or capture and store some like CO2; steps need to be taken to reduce the carbon footprint of businesses and individuals to help Solve Climate Change.
Your challenge is to identify a specific problem associated with climate change. Your team will identify a specific problem, explain and analyze in detail, and design a solution that can mitigate the negative impacts of climate change, help reduce the carbon footprint and help solve climate change as set forth by the challenge.
Identify a specific problem associated with climate change, carbon footprint reduction of individuals/ companies or a related topic of your choosing. Explain the specific impacts on environmental conditions, human health and/or economic impacts.
Research and describe the scale of the problem and the affected populations.
Analyze the foundations and causes of the specific issue you chose. Investigate, understand in detail, and explain.
Design a solution that uses clean technology to address your identified problem, and explain how it would help mitigate the negative impacts of your stated problem.
